Keynote: STEM Futures – Why Worldbuilding, Nature, and Imagination Are the Keys to Unlocking Your Students’ Potential
Wednesday July 30, 2025 8:30am - 9:30am MDT
Question: How can worldbuilding inspire students to think bigger, solve real-world problems, and prepare for the future?

From the books and comics we read to the video games students love, worldbuilding is more than just storytelling—it’s a powerful tool for shaping the future. Every major breakthrough, from space exploration to AI, starts as an idea—a world imagined before it becomes real. But how do we teach students to leverage worldbuilding to further engage with STEM subject matter and build the futures they desire?

In this keynote, Astrobiofuturist Billy Almon will help us explore how worldbuilding unlocks creativity, systems thinking, and problem-solving in STEM education. We’ll also uncover why nature is the greatest worldbuilder of all, providing time-tested blueprints for innovation and resilience. Through real-world examples and interactive storytelling, educators will leave with fresh strategies to help students dream big, adapt to change, and navigate the unknown with confidence.
