Question: How can we use nature’s blueprints to prepare students for the challenges and opportunities of the future?

The world is changing faster than ever—so how do we equip students with the skills to navigate uncertainty, think creatively, and solve complex challenges while also getting them further engaged in STEM Futures? The answer lies in the original innovator: nature.

This workshop will explore how biomimicry—the practice of learning from nature’s 3.8 billion years of R&D—can be used as a powerful STEM teaching tool. From energy-efficient buildings inspired by termite mounds to self-cleaning surfaces modeled after lotus leaves, we’ll examine real-world breakthroughs that have transformed industries.

Educators will learn practical ways to integrate biomimicry into STEM education, inspiring students to approach challenges with a problem-solving mindset, systems thinking skills, and a future-focused perspective. Through an interactive discussion and live lesson planning session, we’ll explore how to help students think like nature’s most adaptive, resourceful, and resilient innovators.
